My Ghostly Experience: My Aunt’s Mansion

This happened three years ago when I was on holiday in Jakarta and I was staying at my aunt’s mansion. She is a very wealthy woman and she lives in a huge mansion which is situated in a place that is unusually dark and rather eerie. I don’t understand why she chose that God forsaken place to build her home, right next to a deep ravine if I am not mistaken.. Craaaaaaaaaaaazei!! I still wonder to this day whether it was just my imagination or whether I had been punk’d by a lost soul.

I usually sleep in my aunt’s room on the second floor since she was always alone. The first floor is always dark and it always gives me the creeps. The second floor is dimly lit. To be honest, the lighting is like the mansion in Resident Evil. It looks like a haunted house. Her servants stayed on the first floor but their rooms are outside the house as I recalled.

Anyway, it was around 10 p.m when I went back to bed. I was supposed to sleep in my aunt’s room that night but for some weird reason, I opted to sleep in her son’s room. The room hadn’t been occupied for a while since her son got married. Actually, ALL of the rooms in that mansion was never occupied ever since her sons left. But being someone who is not at all superstitious, I slept with ease. So what happen to little Ren that night?

I have a habit of waking up to pee in the middle of the night. Usually, I will wake up around 3 a.m or 4 a.m in the morning. It is a habit that stayed with me till this very day. That night was no exception. So I woke up, peed and went back to sleep.

5 minutes in bed and I was not completely asleep. It takes time for me to actually “passed out” again once I woke up. So, I suddenly heard a woman’s voice humming an old Javanese ancient song. This will not really creep me out if:

  1. it does not echo loudly in my room
  2. she has a shitty voice (unless if it sounds very demonic).
  3. she hums a song by Britney Spears, Madonna or a shitty K-pop band. What kind of ghosts/spirits will hum pop songs anyway?!

Her voice sounded heavenly – definitely not something that I can easily describe with words. I never heard a human voice that sounds as nice as this one. She had a very soft voice but it had a very piercing edge to it. It echoed effortlessly in that room. She continues humming the ancient song while my eyeballs were bulging and it was ready to pop out from my eye socket.

You know what happens when you are really terrified? I tell you. Your whole body just shuts down. I was completely paralyzed that I just laid down, not being able to get up. I can’t remember how long I was pinned down on the bed until I finally got up and ran to my aunt’s room. I swear I could hear a small, “polite” laughter when I was running.

I can’t seem to fall asleep after that so I stayed up watching the telly. My attention was still on that heavenly voice though. I kept on asking myself whether it was a dream, whether it was my imagination or whether it was real. Was she singing a k-pop song that I am not familiar with? Was she? Who is she? Just a voice in my head? Most importantly, who was laughing when I was running? Bitch really knows how to pull a prank.

Hee hee, maybe it was your sister? Or maybe you were having one of those hyper-realistic dreams – happens to a lot of people, and explains all sorts of things, like alien abductions, etc.

No, my sister was not with me. I went to Jakarta all alone and it was just me and my aunt on the second floor. Besides, my sister does not have a nice voice! If she tries to hum an old song, it will sound like a dying cat! Yeah, hyper-realistic dream is a possibility! I did try to convince myself that I was having a hyper-realistic dream.

Oh I know that house.. It’s kinda creepy at night.. Well, I had a close encounter during Uni myself.. Like you I tend to wake up in the middle of the night to go to the loo.. And we live in a dorm so we have a common bathroom with 16 cubicles.. So automatically when I’m ‘done’ I’ll flush, and voila the other 15 cubicles also flushed one after another, and no, I don’t think that was a hyper realistic dream.. I don’t hear no voices/humming or shit but each cubicle started flushing one after another scared the shit out of me, after that incident, I never go to the toilet alone again.. I’ll wake up my dorm mate to go to the toilet with me!!!!

@Ms. Myrna: Hee hee, that is spooky, especially in a dorm room. But let me tell you, in my old house, we also used to have a toilet that used to flush automatically all the damn time! All throughout the night, every 15 minutes, it flushes itself! And nothing we do fixes the damn thing. Terrible plumbing connections I guess.

My mum used to still freak out about it though, she used to wake up my dad in the middle of the night if she wanted to go.

Btw, Ren told me about this woman floating in her old Malay dorms story. I told her to never tell me that story again, scared the hell outta me! Rennie, you should have written about that too, I’m sure most people wouldn’t sleep after that!

LAWL! I’m sorry, I know it must’ve been really terrifying for you but this is my first time reading a hilarious ghost story. You made it seem as if the ghost was an actual human being pulling a prank on you. :P

Oh my goodness! This is really scary. I wonder if you still have the heart to sleep in that house. Like do you still go there? Did your aunt know about that? :-s It sounds so scary! Well, if I were you. I’d tell my aunt about everything absolutely the next day, or I’d wake her up, so she’d call a priest or something. Because, I kinda believe in paranormal activities and such. But I didn’t except the ghost to hum in a good way, and sing a Britney or Madonna song.. Lol! :O This is really creepy, I always listen to Britney’s song!
Polite laughter? Oh my god, like why is she so polite? That ghost certainly confused me. Is she mermaid or something? Haha. Well anyway, don’t worry much about it. I hope you’ve told your aunt about it, and I hope she gets a priest to her house and kick out those demonic spirits. This really freaked me out! I’ve experienced a ghost night like that in the camping last week, but it turned out to be FAKE.. Err!

That’s quite scary Ren! I had a similar experience when I was around 10. I slept on the sofa in the living room in which I forgot the reason why. I usually sleep in my room on the 2nd floor.

Anyway, to continue my story… I suddenly woke up around 3am because it was warm and also the buzzing of mosquitoes in my ear. Then suddenly it fell silent, I faced the wall with punched out designs thus I can see the other side, which was part of the outdoor kitchen.

There was light there, but what attracted my attention was a shadow of something humanoid with long fingers. I was petrified and just stared at that thing. What frightened me the most was when the lock click and the door leading from the outdoor kitchen to the indoor kitchen and dining area opened. It slowly creaked and I was still there, I wasn’t able to move like I was just waiting for the inevitable.

Then I heard a fierce barking which somehow released me from the state that I was and realised that my dog was sleeping in the living room and was alerted by the intruder.

The dog ran towards the door as he kept on barking and howling. The ruckus woke my grandma, who came down to check and so I followed her. The door was really opened and I told her what I saw. She just dismissed and told me that the maids might have forgotten to lock the door.

Wow, is your aunt a coop for choosing such a place to build her house?

I kind of agree with what someone said previously in some of the other comments, perhaps it was a dream that seems real. Even if you weren’t totally psyched at first with the idea that the house is haunted, it must’ve crossed your mind at some point and manifested in your dream.

If ghosts were to be real, they would haunt places in which they still have a bond too. Usually this is the place in which they died, and they forever hold a vengeance to whomever steps foot there. Unless your aunt built her house near or on top of a old graveyard, there shouldn’t be any reason a ghost would dwell in a house in which they have no connection too.

So either you had a terrible dream within a dream, or your aunt has a heavenly voice and likes to play pranks.

@Charles: That is a scary moment! At least I didn’t see any weird things you know.

@Christine: I don’t really believe in your theory that ghosts only haunt places they are attached to. In fact, I don’t believe in ghosts at all. Even if I do believe in ghosts, I think that they are free to haunt wherever they want and pull a prank on whoever they want? I might be wrong and we both might be wrong, but what the hell right? Just wait till we both die and become ghosts so we can confirm the theory ourselves. My aunt does not pull pranks. :P

@Jad: I didn’t go there anymore. This is an old event that happen to me. I did told my aunt about it though. I am not sure if she does anything about it.

LOL… That’s really creepy. And you’re really good at being descrivtive and detailed about it o_o

If that ever happened to me, I would have went pee again and start panicking >_<

    *shivers I got the chills

Sounds freaky!! I hate sleeping in other people’s home for that reason hahah!~ It’s like you never know what’s there OR “not there” if you know what I mean. Not being able to control your actions when you are in pre-sleep is terrible! Hopefully this incident wont have to happen again to you!!
