I survived the second week of my classes with a breeze. Maybe because it is only the second week and not really that challenging yet. Even after the first week, I already had some essays to write. Fortunately, the essay won’t be as annoying as the one in English and Academic writing classes. So I think I can handle it. There are challenging courses that I had taken this semester but I think I am able to ace it if I am committed. Lots of group projects and those group projects made me think of the old times when I was in high school and in matriculation college doing my A-levels.
What about group projects? Well, nothing special except for people who keep chasing me around and telling me that they ‘want me’. If you know me personally, you know that I like to twist words like this into something dirty. It is not really my fault though, the people who said these stuff to me did not notice how dirty it can sound in someone’s ‘innocent ear’.
Few years ago, when I was doing my A-levels, we had a lot of group projects and we need to pick our own group members. Groups are usually consist of 4-5 people and we need to pick our own group members. If you have cliques, this is easy for you since you can just ignore other people and pick your clique members as your group members and make your communication skills even shiteous. If you are the type that is confident about your communication skills and feel that you can handle a task easily, you wouldn’t care with whoever you have to work with. If you are the type who is not confident about your own skills and need somebody to guide you, you will start panicking.
I belong to the second group. So far, whenever there is a group work or group projects, my group always ended up ace-ing it. I am always the ‘leader’ when it comes to group work and I know what I want exactly, how I want to execute it and how to handle my group members. They call it the ‘Asian factor’. Apparently, if you are Asian, you will automatically be the person with the sexiest brain alive! You are in demand!
Whenever there is a group project, I just want to skip classes and sleep in my room and switch off my phone. And just avoid any sort of communication with other people for a while. Because this is when my classmates will start hunting me and tell me that they ‘want me’. One of the quotes is;
Girl: Ren, I really wanna be with you. I just really really wanna be with you.
Ren: I don’t think so this could help us. I am not the type of person that you can work with since I don’t think that I am your type of friend.
Girl: No. We don’t have to be friends. Lets just do this together.
Ren: …
So, most perverts who do not know what is the based of this dialog will think, “Oh! She just wants to do her but with no strings attached after that. HA!” Yes, I am in demand. If I am a guy and girls just come to me and says these types of things, my life is COMPLETE!
Anyways, I was thinking about removing some of my affiliates who are inactive. I am planning to get more affiliates but have set up some strict rules on affiliation because I am just so sick of people who comes and goes. People are just not serious anymore. They came by and open up their site and if they don’t like it anymore, they will close it down or change the name of the site just because they want to sound more ‘mature’ or different. After changing the site’s name, they will be M.I.A again. We barely even talk so I am sending most of them emails tomorrow and just kick them out. The rules for affiliations and link exchange will show up tomorrow.
Note that I might post up some neat new tutorials this weekend. Or possibly next week. I was thinking about putting either a CSS tutorial or a jQuery. Depends on you guys though. What do you want? There might be some graphic updates next weekend but I am not promising anything. I’ll try and see.
I might not be posting the tutorial this weekend since I want to see the response. What are you interested in?
You’re FIGJAM, honey.. Which is an acronym for ‘Fuck I’m Good, Just Ask Me’, from Nigel Marsh’s book ‘Underpaid and Underlaid’, hilarious..
But we have a bunch of FIGJAMs in the family so that explains it.. But, when you’re good, admit it, you’re good and Alhamdulillah.. All glory goes to the Al-Khalik for driving you and making you what you have become today.. I am a damn proud mum and will say to other mummies, FIGJAM, that!!!!
Ain’t you supposed to be in the 1st group? The confident one? Must be some typo error because you have so much going on in your head, eh?
Talking about group projects. Hate it!
I’m not really a team player since I love to have free rein coupled with my strong personality. Especially at design school when one’s style doesn’t suit yours, so it’s really difficult to work in groups without the constant fighting and arguing.
I study communication so naturally there are a lot of group projects. Most of the time we are put into our groups, though. We don’t get to choose. When we do get to choose, no one looks at who does well; they just choose based on who their friends are. And within those groups, they choose roles for each person. I’m pretty happy when we get to choose our own groups and I get to go with friends. There’s no pressure or tension.
I think it was more in high school that people used to take note of those with big brains, and automatically, those people would be the gods of the earth. In university now, it seems that more people are concerned about their own marks and tend to down those who are known for being lazy.
Well that utterly sucks. For the most part, I stick with my cliques, but my cliques are usually straight to the point and know what needs to be done. We chit chat here and there, but at least we get the work done. I know other groups just talk all through the period and at the end have the nerve to ask, “Hey! Can we borrow that for a second?” How about no…
I don’t know why, but when you see an Asian, you assume they’re smart. For the most part they are, but I guess they want you anyways to make sure they pass.
Sorry about your affiliates but that’s how it goes. You need to think of them as “friends”; they come and go. Some of them you’ll have all through your web desinging career while others won’t last very long. Don’t get frustrated! You’ll find potential affilaites eventually.
heya
thanks for the comment
i’m very excited too!
omg haha! if you are asian you have the sexiest brain alive xD thats cute, made me smile
ttyl
LOL oops. :U You can disregard that last comment. I have so many tabs open, I lost track of comments and who commented. .____. ANYWAYS.
Most of the time what you think looks crappy, someone else might think looks amazing. :U People may say they like my layout, but deep inside, I want to delete all the coding and burn it so it’s never to be seen again~ As far as projects go, I could care less how much it looks as long as it’s not complete garbage. XD
Thank you! :3 I’m glad you like it.
I always thought Asians were born leaders without even knowing this. I am an Aries and I am a born leader but not Asian. I tend to start the projects and then guide the people who eventually finish them because I am to much of a procrastinator once I have started something … I find it hard to finish so I tell my group, I’ll start it, guide you half way and then continue it. I’ll even do the presentation in front of people as I love public speaking. It works
I don’t blame you about removing affies. It shits me when that happens. Fair play I recon.
In the UK, classes are divided into sets according to “braininess” or moreover, aptitude of certain subject so there is less of this pressure to snag the brainy kid for group projects.
Actually, I don’t think the Asian factor is to lead the group necessarily. I prefer to have someone else lead so if we fuck up, it’s on them but I’m the brain of the group in the end. merher.
I have to admit that since starting medical school, group projects have been few and far in between for me. I must say that I hated group projects back when I had to do them– I would invariably get put with a bunch of less-than-competent classmates…
Although, in my experience, being Asian is more about being anal than about having leadership abilities– at least that’s how I am xD
I guess it is more about what are you currently majoring in. I am majoring in Information Systems and group works are vital since we will be working with an organization later on.
I don’t think so being in medical school will garner you a lot of group projects. Medical studies, it is more about mastering medical techniques as an individual I suppose. You may work with other surgeons or doctors, but group project wouldn’t be necessary for you guys.
Hi Ren,
I am really fascinated with your website, and loved your tips. I worked before with CMS (Joomla), but I fallen short with graphics and CSS. What advice do you give a beginner in the field of graphics and design. I also tried using some tools like GIMP and Illustrator, but its not satisfying all of my ideas…
Thank you ,
Gaze..
I replied to you via email.
